Wonderful Times at Wellsprings

By Abdullahi Kabiru – 7LN

The day that all year sevens and eights were waiting for finally arrives on the ninth of June. The long-awaited trip to the Well Springs camp arrived and luckily I was one of the people who went on the trip!

The trip was very fun, we learned new skills and made new friends. If you didn’t go, you don’t know the amount of fun you missed but let me take you through the fun stuff.

The boys hard at work.

The boys hard at work.

On day one we came to school all excited, with our suitcases and sportswear, we said bye to friends who were not going and when the bell rang and we all went to the cafeteria to do a register. After that we were off! The journey was an hour thirty and minutes but in the bus we found something to pass the time with. We played games at first but at the end we got bored and I had a little nap.

When we thought we first arrived we looked around us and the place was a dump and the first timers were like “Are we gonna sleep there?”.

As we kept driving we got more and more angry but suddenly we saw what we had come for – written on it was “Beit El Wadi” and we were all happy because we saw a place with green fields, a stadium,  swimming pool and a skateboard park!

We got down from the buses very happily and we were greeted by a very cheerful group of people. We were told to go into the main hall where we met Mike, the Camp Instructor. Mike explained the rules of the camp and then we got into our cabins and our groups. We were either Aqua or Vida. We went to the pool and had some fun after that we had lunch and thankfully the food there wasn’t really bad. y7 girls

After lunch we had an Aqua vs Vida challenge. All of the events that we did on that day were fun but the most fun and amazing was the game that we did after dinner. It was called Commando.

Commando, if you’ve never played it, is one of the best games to play in the dark. How we play it is that you wait until it’s night time and then you wear dark clothes and are given a package to deliver to a location but you have to hide from the evil people trying to get your package.

After the game we went to our cabins and took a shower then went to bed.

Our counselors who stayed with us in the rooms were very nice too, especially the ones called Michael and the amazing Karshi.

The next day we couldn’t wake up at first because we were all very tired from the game we played the night before but in camp if you don’t wake up they give you the bucket. When we woke up we had breakfast which was none other that the famous Egyptian fool or bread and eggs.

Throughout the whole week we had a lot of fun but the most fun came on the last day before we had to come back to Cairo.

After breakfast all of us went to the stadium and we played capture the flag with water balloons. Then it was time to announce the winners of the big competition – the cabin competition. Throughout the whole week we had been working to gather points for our cabin and the cabin with the most points would get a prize and get the title of Cabin Champ. The cabin competition that day was to build a boat to transfer one member of our cabin across the pool with only one person pushing the boat.

To get the equipment to build the boat we had to do different activities such as running, stair climbing and sukoku.

After the cabins had the things they needed they went to the shop and bought equipment such as pipes, inflatable tires and spray paint and a lot more.

At the end all the teams came out with amazing boats but it wasn’t all over – all the teams headed to the swimming pool where they put the boat in the water, the racers took their marks and then GO!

From the beginning it was clear who would win because they had a head start. It was my cabin, Cabin 4, and we won. Although our boat was the winner though, the prettiest boat was Cabin 5’s.

The last thing we did in the camp was we had a camp fire. At the camp fire we danced, sang and even put marshmallows in the fire before we ate them (yummy). Even when we thought it couldn’t get any better but the best was still to come –  finding out who won the cabin competition and the Aqua vs Vida challenges.

First was the cabin completion results and we were all very sad to hear that it was a tie between a boys cabin and a girls cabin – Cabin 4 and Cabin 2. But there could only be one champion and only one Cabin Champ so we decided to settle this in a street-fashioned dance competition: Cabin 4 vs Cabin 2 put your dancing shoes on! wspring

First to go was Cabin 2 because Cabin 4 were gentlemen and said “Ladies go first” so the girls took to the dance floor and their dancing was great, there was a fire on the dance floor and an amazing effort but not good enough because when Cabin 4 took the floor they took us back to the funky disco era of the 90’s. Cabin 4 were amazing dance machines, busting moves, doing flips, headstand all the funky disco moves.

So it was time to decide who danced the the best and the judges had a very hard time deciding but from the roaring of the crowd the judges decided that Cabin 4 were the ultimate dance machines!

That still wasn’t it though – we still had to find out the winner of the Aqua vs Vida challenges. In these challenges there were tears, sweat and blood – mostly from me. The winners were the blue team AQUA (AQUA IS THE BEST, TAKE THAT VIDA) and that was it but we decided to do one more thing.

When all the counsellors weren’t there we all ran to the pool and jumped in with our cloths. When the counselors came we all ran but they hunted us down and made us do some fun DISCIPLINE. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time!
