CES goes green

Over the course of these next few years Cairo English School (CES) intends on going green.

For further information MS Brunskill was interviewed.

“The IB students have a CAS programme in which the will have to initiate an extended project which had to service the community,” Ms Brunskill said.

The current recycling programme involves recycling paper, but the IB students intend to develop the recycling programme by recycling plastic and other materials year upon year.

CAS students head to Ethiopia

Lying in the horn of Africa is one of the most fascinating countries in the world.

Bordered by Eritrea to the north, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south lies Ethiopia, the land of ancient historical monuments.

This last Tuesday of the term, thirteen of CES’s finest seniors are representing the school in that amazing country.

The objective of the trip is to be engaged in an international issue and take part in an adventurous journey. The participants will be working towards fulfill their Creativity Action Services (CAS) and International Award requirements.

The first stage will be the project phase.

CES hosts successful cancer fundraiser

Cancer is a disease that affects us all and with no definite cure, many are fatally affected by this tragic condition.

Thanks to science, we have been able to slowly but surely identify the many different types of cancer at early stages.

When these cancerous cells are diagnosed early, doctors are often able to eliminate them and ‘cure’ the patients. However, if these cells aren’t diagnosed at an early stage or if the cancer is too aggressive, the disease can escalate and prove fatal.

Warning over setting off fire alarms

The behaviour of the schools Year 7 students is again under the spotlight after two students set off a fire alarm last week. Abdullahi Kabiru (7LN) talks to their Head of Year, Miss James, about the incident and their behavior and outlines the consequences of what happens when students make such bad decisions.

AK: How do you feel when other teachers report to you about the bad behavior of the year sevens?

Miss James: I feel frustrated! I also feel almost apologetic to my colleagues that the same students continue to waste their time and disrespect them. It is also very unfair for my history students because it cuts time out of their class time.

Robots and solutions for a better world – First Lego League hits Egypt

Year 7 student Abdullah Hamza will compete this weekend in the First Lego Challenge – a robotics competition where participants build robots from Lego and complete challenges. He shares the details of the competition with the CES Post.

Every country is assigned a main topic for the year – last year it was Food Factor and this year it’s Senior Solutions where the focus is looking at ideas to make life easier for older people.
